George M Tomais MD, PhD, born in Athens, graduated from the Medical School of University of Ioannina, Greece in 1992.
From Nov. 1992 to Feb. 1994 he serviced as a Doctor in the Greek Army Medical Corps and then worked as an Externship in the Accident and Emergencies Department of the General Hospital of Athens for six months.
He served as a district doctor in Agrinion, for three years, working at the same time as a pre-registration House Officer in the Department of Ophthalmology at the General Hospital of Agrinion.
He completed his four-year residency in Ophthalmology in 2001, at the Polyclinic General Hospital of Athens, with specialty in Cataract and Glaucoma and was trained for six months in the Department of Strabismus of the Paediatric Hospital “St.Sofia”. He completed his PhD in 2009, with a grade of excellence.
Dr. Tomais successfully participated in the International the USA Tufts University examination, Innovations in the Glaucoma Treatment. He has also followed the Observership Program of the Glaucoma Department in Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and the same program of the Glaucoma Clinic in New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
He has trained as a specialist in the use of Trabectome (electromechanical surgery for Glaucoma) at the New York Presbyterian Hospital and completed the courses of the Fellowship in Advanced Photorefractive Surgery.
He has been part of the Hellenic Eye Center “Orasis” team from 2001 to 2016, working in the department of cataract, glaucoma and refractive surgery. He is Scientific Associate of Mediterraneo Hospital since July 2019 and Scientific Director of the Ophthalmology Department of Meditteraneo First Care since October 2019.
He is a member of the Hellenic Ophthalmic Society, the Hellenic Society of Intraocular Lens and Refractive Surgery and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
He is author and co-author of various published works.
