Dr. Hatziagelaki graduated from the Cologne University Medical School, and then completed her training in Internal Medicine at the 2nd Dept. of Internal Medicine, Research Institute & Diabetes Center of Athens University in “Evangelismos Hospital”. She has a license to practice medicine in Germany and Greece.
After her training in internal medicine, she expanded her academic experience as research fellow indiabetes, fatty liver and obesity in the 3rd Medical Clinic and Policlinic of Justus-Liebig University, and in the 4th Department of Medicine of Eberhard-Karls-University in Germany. During her stay in those departments, Dr. Hatziagelaki was involved not only in research protocols, but also in the daily monitoring of diabetic patients in the outpatient clinic as well as in hospitalized diabetic patients.
Since November 2015, she works as a visiting professor at the University of Düsseldorf, Germany, German Diabetes Center (DDZ), Leibniz Center for Diabetes Research at Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorf. She is involved in the research in the field of diabetes, obesity and fatty liver disorders.
Dr. Hatziagelaki has a rich background in teaching and research work, as is shown through her publication in prestigious scientific journals and her participation as invited speaker at many congresses in Greece and abroad. Dr. Hatziagelaki has also held numerous administrative roles: She was Head of the Diabetes Center and of the Division “Immunology and Diabetes” of the 2nd Dept. of Internal Medicine, Research Institute & Diabetes Center at “Attikon” University Hospital, President of the Diabetes Committee of the Central Board of Health (KESY), Ministry of Health, Member of the secondary Scientific
advisory board of the National Organization for Medicines (EOF), Member of the secondary scientific advisory board of the Hellenic Association of Pharmaceutical Companies (SFEE), Member of the European Type 1 Diabetes Genetics Consortium (ET1DGC) and Vice President of the Central European Diabetes Association (CEDA) and continues as a Board member. Additionally, she is Member of the Scientific Working Group of the Ministry of Health for the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Prescription Protocols for Diabetes and Consultant Diabetologist at Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center.
Dr. Hatziagelaki is Head of the Center of Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases in Mediterraneo First Care.
